Fleas are a pain to have around. Along with biting your pets and infesting their fur, fleas can end up in your home and bite you, potentially leading to allergic reactions. To prevent these pests from attacking your pets and ending up in your home, it’s crucial to fight them outside. That’s where we come in. We combine our knowledge of flea activity and lifecycles with our proven flea control treatments to protect Port Aransas, TX, residents from these pests. Below, we’ll highlight some of the stages of a flea’s life and some preventative tips to help you address indoor flea populations.

The Stages of Flea Development

1. Flea Eggs

Fleas start their lives as eggs, which make up around half of the average population. Shortly after a meal, adult fleas will lay eggs in bunches of up to 20. Because of how many eggs these pests can lay on a daily basis, checking your pets’ fur for these pests is an important part of preventing indoor infestations.

2. Flea Larvae

Once they hatch, fleas are blind and legless, spending their days eating pre-digested blood that adult fleas leave behind. After they get stronger, flea larvae begin weaving their cocoons, which takes around 5-20 days. Anti-flea treatments are a great way to fight any flea larvae currently residing in your pets’ fur. Fleas in their larval stage generally account for more than a third of their total population.

3. Flea Pupae

The cocoons that house flea pupae are often located deep within rugs and carpeting, making vacuuming them away difficult. To address flea pupae in your textiles, be sure to steam clean them or wash and dry them on your machines’ hottest settings.

4. Adult Fleas

Once flea pupae mature into adults inside their cocoons and sense a meal walking by, they’ll emerge and start the cycle all over.
