What Do We Spray in Your Yard?
Often, we are asked if our mosquito control products will harm children or pets. Others want to know what is in our products and will it harm our pollinators such as bees, butterflies and dragonflies. These are great questions because we all want to protect our loved ones and the environment.
Pyrethrin is a component derived from the Chrysanthemum plant. The main ingredient in the products that we use is called pyrethroid, which is the synthetic version of pyrethrin. Pyrethroids are very low in toxicity. In fact, they are used in flea and tick shampoos that we use on our pets, as well as lice shampoos that we sometimes need to use on our children. When used according to the label, they pose very little threat to humans and other mammals. Here at Mosquito Hunters of Northwest Richmond-Mechanicsville, all of our technicians are trained and certified to properly handle the products that we use. That includes following the label completely. Part of those instructions is to make sure there are no people nor pets in the yard during treatment and for 30 minutes afterwards to allow the product to dry. This is the direction that we give to all of our customers. Once the product has dried, then it is fine for everyone to go back out and enjoy the yard!
Even though our products pose very little threat to humans and other mammals, they do pose a threat to insects, which, obviously, is why we use them to rid your yard of mosquitoes, ticks and fleas. So, we are careful how and where we spray them in order to protect our pollinators. We do not spray near any beehives, and we are careful not to spray the blooms of any plants. With these precautions, we can rid your yard of mosquitoes, ticks and fleas, and protect the important pollinators at the same time.
