This comprehensive process decimates adult tick populations while preventing their eggs and larvae from maturing into adulthood.

In addition to our detailed service, we also provide every homeowner with tips and guidance on preventing tick bites. To get started, let’s cover some of the more common myths about what to do if you’ve been bitten.

Common Tick Myths Debunked

Misinformation about ticks often causes people to make poor decisions once they discover a bite. Here are three harmful tick-related myths we are eager to debunk:

Myth #1: Use soap to remove the tick. Many assume that adding a substance such as soap or petroleum jelly to the attached tick will cause the creature to let go. Unfortunately, this is not only false but actually quite dangerous. Applying any sort of substance to the tick will cause it to panic and release more infectious matter into the bite wound.

Myth #2: Burn the tick. With protection from their solid exoskeleton, ticks are not easily deterred by fire. If you try to burn a tick off your body, you’ll only burn your own skin.

Myth #3: Take antibiotics right away. A tick bite does not automatically lead to Lyme disease, so there’s no need to jump the gun and start taking medication that is not prescribed by a doctor. In fact, you should never take antibiotics without a prescription.

When bitten by a tick, all you need to do is remove the creature with a pair of tweezers. It takes them at least 36 hours to infect a person with Lyme disease, so as long as you remove the entire body carefully within that timeframe, you should be fine. If you believe you may have contracted an illness, consult your doctor.
