It’s also essential to protecting the health of your family, your pets, and your garden. From your friends at Mosquito HuntersTM, here are a few tips on taking care of these creatures.
How To Get Rid of Mosquitoes: 3 Tips for Charlotte Area Yards
Wondering how to get rid of mosquitoes from your Charlotte property? Here are 3 tried-and-true methods to keep those pesky critters away:
- Mosquito repellents with DEET. You’ll find that DEET is one of the most common active ingredients in insect repellents. It’s also one of the oldest: it’s been in use for over 50 years. That’s because DEET is highly effective. Studies show these products can repel approximately 100% of mosquitoes for up to 7 hours. However, DEET won’t kill mosquitoes. It simply keeps mosquitoes away temporarily.
- Mosquito repellents with Picaridin. Picaridin was only introduced to the USA in the 2000s, but it’s been used around the world since the 1980s. It’s known to be as effective as products with DEET, but less greasy. Like DEET, it not only repels mosquitoes but ticks and other biting critters. Unfortunately, like DEET, it’s also temporary. It won’t kill mosquitoes, but it will keep them away.
- Mosquito sprays. If you want a more permanent solution for how to get rid of mosquitoes in Charlotte, mosquito sprays are the way to go. For example, Mosquito Hunters won’t just help you get rid of mosquitoes from your property, but their eggs, too. We’ll also give you tips on how to keep your home and garden mosquito-proofed. What products are applied to my yard in a treatment?
Our primary barrier treatment products are synthetic forms of pyrethrins called pyrethroids. Pyrethrins originate from the extract of chrysanthemum flowers. Pyrethroids are used in various household products including lice shampoos and pet shampoos and sprays. We spray this product on bushes and shrubs, mulch beds, low-hanging portions of your trees, etc. Since these products are derived from plants, they will not harm plants. The products break down naturally into harmless byproducts 21 days after application.
In addition to outdoor mosquito and tick control, pyrethroid based products like these are used in flea treatments for dogs and medications for head lice. All Mosquito Hunters technicians are licensed by the Department of Agriculture.
How long does a barrier treatment take to apply and how long will it last?
A Mosquito Hunters barrier treatment takes about 20 minutes to complete, on average. Larger yards may take longer to treat. Each treatment lasts approximately 21 days, at which time our team will be scheduled to treat your yard again. You, your family, and your pets should stay inside during the barrier treatment, but feel free to return to your outdoor fun after allowing 30 minutes for the treatment to dry. When dry, there is minimal opportunity for the product to transfer to people or pets who brush against the foliage.
How do your treatments continue to keep mosquitoes away for 21 days?
Mosquito Hunters provides multi-tiered methods of control and utilize the highest grade of microencapsulated products that release gradually over time. This ensures a complete 21 days of protection. Unlike temporary mosquito fogging or propane-based mosquito catchers, our fogging application sticks to the mosquito resting areas on your property and provides continuous elimination, guaranteed.
Does someone need to be home for your treatments?
No. We will notify you at least 24 hours before your treatment. If you are home, we will check in and check out with you. Either way, we will leave notice that your yard has been protected by Mosquito Hunters.
Will Mosquito Hunters eliminate all the mosquitoes and ticks on my property?
No service can provide 100% protection from every mosquito and tick but on average our service will reduce mosquitoes and ticks by 85% to 95%.
Do you offer any kind of guarantee?
Yes. With our Hunters’ Happiness Promise, Mosquito Hunters offers a no-hassle satisfaction guarantee; if you aren’t fully satisfied for any reason, we will re-treat free of charge, no questions asked, no strings attached.
What happens if it rains after my yard has been treated?
As long as your yard has had sufficient time to dry afterwards (about 30 minutes), rain should not have a negative effect on the barrier treatment. However, our Hunters’ Happiness Promise ensures that if the quality of your barrier treatment is affected by rain, we will come back and re-treat at no additional cost.
Does normal pest control get rid of mosquitoes? What makes your service different?
Mosquitoes are definitely a pest, but normal pest control doesn’t always target these biting bugs. Here at Mosquito Hunters, we’ve worked to perfect an environment, kid and pet friendly solution that specifically targets mosquitoes. Our barrier treatments also effectively get rid of fleas and ticks. Learn more here.
Our village has a mosquito truck come through and spray from the street; what makes your service better?
Our treatments are tailored specifically for your property. On foot, our technicians walk your property to apply with a methodology specific to your outdoor space. On the other hand, a mosquito truck sprays a dense fog from the street, intending to eradicate adult mosquitoes, but their service can only reach pockets of infested areas in close proximity to the truck. In many cases, the backyard mosquitoes are left unfazed. We make your backyard our main mosquito hunting area!
Can mosquito control treatments protect against the mosquitoes that carry Zika Virus?
Yes. Regular barrier treatments can effectively kill and prevent mosquitoes, protecting against Zika Virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses.
Can mosquito control treatments protect against the mosquitoes that carry West Nile Virus?
Yes. The best way to protect yourself and your family from West Nile Virus is to reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home and neighborhood. This is exactly what we do.
Can I get just a one-time treatment for a special outdoor party, wedding, or reception?
Sure thing! We protect everything from weddings to backyard birthdays to family reunions. Ask us for details.
Does Mosquito Hunters service homeowners associations (HOAs)?
Indeed we do – often at a discount! On top of that, we provide significant savings for large groups of treatments. Ask us for details and we will be happy to give a presentation at your next board meeting.
Does Mosquito Hunters service commercial accounts?
Yes, we do – usually at a discounted price. We provide protection for commercial accounts, including golf courses/driving ranges, pools, restaurants with outdoor seating, outdoor concert venues, playgrounds, and campgrounds, just to name a few. Ask us for details!
Do you spray the grass?
Not normally, since mosquitoes do not typically use your grass as a resting area. The most common “hot spots” for hunting mosquitoes during the day include under the leaves of dense bushes and shrubs, underneath decks, and in damp shaded areas of the property. However, Mosquito Hunters does recommend that you keep your grass short during the mosquito season. In some special circumstances like large outdoor parties and weddings, we will spray the grass where your guests will be.
Is there an all-natural treatment option?
Yes, however please note that our all-natural spray needs to be applied more often to be effective and it repels mosquitoes rather than eliminating them. The all-natural treatment is a good option if you have a significant portion of vegetable gardens and ponds on your property. Prices may differ for this solution so please contact us for a quote.
How much does mosquito control cost
Pricing is mostly contingent on the size of your property and how many treatments you would like to receive. Each property is unique and we customize each barrier to successfully treat your mosquito problem. Please call us for a free quote at any time. Normally, we don’t even need to visit your property – our agents will be able to look your property address using our computer program and verify your property size for an accurate quote.
