Flooding
West Michigan has been getting a lot of rain lately!
With the influx of rain you may have noticed more mosquitos on your property. It is very likely these mosquitos are Floodplain Mosquitoes. Floodplain mosquitoes come out when the water levels rise. They are larger than the average mosquito and tend to swarm during the day as well as the evening. These types of mosquitoes hatch all at once when water levels reach a certain point and bombard your property regardless of treatment.
Luckily our treatments are built to withstand rain, a lot of rain. Our treatment products are formulated with a process called microencapsulation, which acts as a time-release pill. The active ingredients are released slowly over time and stick to each leaf-like glue to work with the rainy weather. We apply these treatments to the underside of leaves, where mosquitos rest for food and shade, and where rain does not hit them. However, some mosquitos may likely land on you before landing on the treated leaves. That is why when there are more mosquitoes, it may take up to 48 hours for our treatment to kick in.
If your yard has flooded from the extra rainfall we advise you clear as much standing water as possible and call us for a boosted barrier treatment and larvicide treatment to eliminate mosquitoes and eggs that may be in the standing water. Encourage your neighbors to reduce their standing water and to sign up for a treatment as well, the problem may not even be coming from your yard.
