Josh Ambrose and his wife Nicole started Mosquito Hunters of Jacksonville South & Saint Augustine for all the right reasons. Josh knew that he was retiring from the Marine Corps after twenty-four years of service and needed something challenging, as well as interesting to keep him busy.

The Ambrose family began calling Jacksonville home years ago, although they have only resided in the area since 2019. The sole reason they moved to the area was to be closer to the family and it was where Josh wanted to end up after retirement. And boy did they choose right! Jacksonville, known to most as JAX, and the surrounding areas where they live, could not get any better. They love living here.

Nicole is originally from Long Island; NY-born and raised. She is constantly looking for quality pasta and pizza. In fact, one of their favorite pizza spots is located on Highway 1- Primos Pizza. Nicole is a southerner trapped inside a New Yorker’s body, with a slight, adorable accent. She has been in the Vet field for a long time serving in numerous Practice Manager positions and at the staff level as a Strategic Inventory Manager. She is a true animal lover, and they have many pets. Fun fact about Nicole: She used to ride and exercise racehorses and even went to college for equine studies.

Josh and Nicole have two children, Harper, and Hudson. Harper loves to tell everyone that they have four dogs, three cats, three guinea pigs, one horse, and one goat. Hudson just began crawling and is not talking yet, but they expect his first real word to be “Gunther”- the Mosquito Hunters mascot you may see around town waving at commuters at busy intersections.

Nicole knows just how significant mosquitoes are to animals. Mosquitoes are the ONLY way dogs can get heartworm disease. By reducing the mosquito population, Mosquito Hunters reduces the likelihood of your pet getting this dreadful disease.

Besides helping animals from mosquitoes, she despises mosquitoes. She, like many of you, gets attacked by mosquitoes and forms little welts when they bite. These welts are caused by injected saliva right before the mosquito enjoys a blood meal. Gross isn’t it?

There are two things you can count on every year in Florida: hurricanes and mosquitoes. While you cannot do anything about hurricanes, Mosquito Hunters of Jacksonville South & Saint Augustine can surely help you with your mosquito control problems.

The heat and humidity surrounding Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and S.t Johns County make for a long mosquito season, which typically goes from early-February to early-December. The temperatures dictate when mosquitoes go into and out of diapause, which is a very technical word for “hibernation”. Rest assured, not all mosquitoes go into diapause over the winter. For some species only the larvae make it through the winter. For others, only the female mosquito survives through the winter. But for nearly all relevant mosquito species, the male mosquito dies at winter……sorry fellas.

What sets Mosquito Hunters apart from others? First, is their knowledge of mosquitoes and ticks and how that knowledge carries over to treatment. For example, did you know the Culex mosquito is the mosquito out in the evenings and the Asian Tiger mosquito is the pesty creature out during the day?  I know what you are thinking, this information is not going to help you to impress at your next friends or family gathering, but it is important information. The more you know about each relevant species, the better you can target them and provide the precise treatment necessary, such as the length of time between treatments.

Mosquito Hunters also provides treatment based off the lifecycle of other pests, such as ants, worms, and other yard pests. What also sets Mosquito Hunters apart is that we are not just in the mosquito control business, we are in the loyalty business. This means the number one priority is to earn customer loyalty by providing superior mosquito, and tick control along with unrivaled customer service. To put it frankly, Mosquito Hunters is here to serve you.

Mosquito Hunters is proud to service Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Saint Augustine, and Saint Johns.

Mosquito Hunters looks forward to helping you take back your yard!
